A Mad Hatter's March

“You used to be much more… muchier. You’ve lost your muchness,” said the The Mad Hatter.

What a crazy month this has been! Things feel like they are slowing down everywhere - but let's heed some advice from the Mad Hatter and hold onto our 'muchness'!

In the studio

Here are my current works in progress. I have recently started working on a children's book I wrote when I was a kid. I illustrated it in uni and I'm now revising the style and finalising the whole story! It's a long-term project so most of my paintings have been stalled more than usual of late.

Inspirations & Reflections

Everything is changing in day-to-day life but then not much at all has changed for us artists. Working from home means we are always isolated. That being said, I've been working much harder than usual this month due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. A lot of businesses are going into a temporary lockdown which makes it much harder to find ongoing work.

But let's focus on some 'muchness'! One of the highlights for me this month was going out to a beautiful forest on my boyfriend's birthday! I made him a baby Yoda drawing for a birthday card. We even came across 2 unexpected visitors, an emu and a kangaroo!

I found some more 'muchness' when I came across the instagram account of Toby the Toad (@yaboi_toby_toad). What an adorable little critter! He gets up to so much much every day, how could his 'muchness' not rub off on you too?

You want to know what's the best thing about not needing to go out? Dress-ups! Getting to dress up as an imaginary character all day long is single-handedly the most motivating part of staying at home. Well, that and listening to Alvin and the Chipmunk covers of popular songs at full blast!

How have you been finding your 'muchness' since the lockdowns started? I'd love to know. Please share your 'muchness' in the comments below!

Events & Updates

Working with Greenhill Publishing

I had super exciting news this month! I met up with a publisher in my city and they really liked my work. Hopefully they'll connect me with children's book authors soon so I can start working on some exciting projects! I have wanted to illustrate children's books since forever so this is a real dream! The staff who met with me were super friendly! This year's been one big plunge into the deep end with art and things so we'll see how it all works out!
