Fee-fi-fo-fum February

Do you dare enter the giant's castle with me?

The second month of the new year is always one where I feel so pressured about my art. It's a time where I've got a full year behind me, looking at how much I have done and could have done, and realising how much there is yet to do. I hope to share with you a little more insight into what's been happening for me this month.

In the studio

Here's my current work in progress. I'm so happy with where this little girl is going! We've been through a few arguments the pair of us, but recently we've started working things out - the foundations are set in place and I'm now able to move ahead and focus on the colours and refining the forms. It's been a very busy time this month, work situations have shifted and I've been unable to create art for various different reasons. I've given her a dedicated few days this month and I'm so happy I did! It can be very difficult to enter into the creative zone with so many interruptions, sometimes you simply need to abolish reality with all its responsibilities and just art!

Inspirations & Reflections

I've decided to start sharing things that influence my creative thoughts and processes. I've found it helps me understand the meaning behind my creations better.

This month, a lot of my creations have been inspired by the new house I moved into with my family. There is so much nature surrounding me, I have my own studio for the first time, and I've even got a creepy cemetery down my street!

We have the tiniest little birds living in our garden and I stumbled upon their even tinier nest in one of the shrubs. I'm excited to see them raise a little family!

I've also been listening to a lot of new music while painting recently. One of the standout songs I've enjoyed is 'No Roots' by Alice Merton.

I've also surprised myself to have enjoyed a recent podcast by Aloreing. I'm not usually one that can pay attention while listening, but I've found the conversation between Kimmy and Sydney to be quite relaxing when I'm sketching. They talk about lesser known folklore creatures that often inspire me with new ideas.

Please share with me in the comments on my blog what your favourite artistic inspirations are - I'd really love to check them out!
